Try the rugelach. And the double chocolate zucchini bread. And pretty much everything

Small but busy shop. For just under $18, I tried the everything bagel with regular cream cheese and lox. The bagel was ok, the outside was tough and a bit butned tasting, the inside was dense and flavorless. It did satisfy the cravimg, but likely wouldn't make that drive again. However, I would be willing to go back and try some of their other items, they have a lot of options.

Got a really good vegan bun of some sort here. It was such a nice texture! My mom got the cinnamon bagel with cream cheese and really enjoyed it. I have been here several times between the LA and NYC locations, and it never disappoints. Not much indoor seating just fyi. But Montana Ave is a lovely strip to walk up and down. I'd rec getting a pastry here, walking to La La Land for coffee, and then walking up and down Montana window shopping (or into the neighborhoods - Margerita St is my fav, it has so many pretty flowers in all the lawns.) Free street parking if you park on a number street (like 16th for exa). I'm a big fan of this place. Best gluten free baked good place around.

Delightful destination for gluten free diners. I just wish there were slightly more vegan options, particularly a vegan bagel without seeds since I'm allergic. Guess experiencing bagels just isn't in the cards!

BEST BAGELS EVER!! you wont be able to tell its gluten free. They also have the best selection of pastries ever! Incredible service and seating area!!!

This is what you call GLUTEN FREE HEAVEN!!! My celiac sister was on cloud 9 when we walked inside modern bread & bagel. The glazed donut was very airy and yummy. The coconut french toast sticks were good and the coconut flavor doesn't overpower too much. All of the pastries look so good, it's hard to choose!! I haven't tried the bagels yet but I plan to soon! the potato latkes were yummy!! All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are only 2 barstools indoors for seating but there are a few more outdoor stools you can sit on. I would recommend adding a few more chairs indoors for those chilly days!!

It poured this morning, but before I went to my PT in Santa Monica the sun came out, the sky was blue with beautiful puffy white clouds and all was good in LaLaLand. I decided to check out a new bakery on Montana in Santa Monica called Modern Bread & Bakery. This joint took the place about a year ago of BreadBock and it claims to have award-winning bagels. I hope with my lower bar that they are just very good because everything in this bakery is gluten-free. Being born in NY but raised in Venice CA, I have had great bagels, then becoming Celiac 25 years ago I have had GF bagels that might be better used for ring toss. Over the past number of years as my disease has exploded, I have discovered fantastic Pizza, pasta, pastries and even cannolis that are close and sometimes as good or better than their wheat counterparts. Here, the donuts, cakes, and bagels look spectacular. I ordered one bagel of the month, an all everything bagel, a caramel Twix Babka and a glazed brioche doughnut that the server behind the counter said was their best seller. I have not tried everything but the everything bagel was everything I hoped and the donut was very good. So the proof is in the babka, or is that bagel? I am so excited and blessed to have a gluten free bakery back in this space on Montana. I tried modern bread and bagel last Saturday and already had to go back for more goodies. For non celiac people, remember that it is easy to take being able to eat normal bread products for granted. When us celiacs have the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful bread product that is as close to the real thing as possible, it's truly a moment to be cherished. The bagels at modern bread and bagel and hands down the best gluten free bagels u have ever had. They are so flavorful and the closest thing I have experienced next to the gluten containing counterpart. My partner barely could tell the difference. The shroom sandwich is addicting. I love the mushroom patty so much. I like to add a nice vegan cream cheese and need to eat it once a week. I also adore their donuts. From the glazed strawberry and chocolate to the Boston cream pie, all of the donuts are super fluffy and delicious. I cannot wait to come back and continue bringing friends. Thank you for giving the celiac community the opportunity to finally enjoy.
